The singles scene

3 Apr

Guess what? There are a lot more single women (20-54 years old) in Atlanta than there are men – about 20,000 more, at least according to snobby urban studies theorist Richard Florida and his fancy numbers and map. And while there may be a lot of female singles, at least they aren’t as crazy as some of the ones further up the east coast where the concentration of their kind is even higher. The men seem to be out west, probably because the the grueling pioneer lifestyle is to harsh and cruel on our delicate female physiques.

Read Florida’s Boston Globe article from this weekend that explains the map, or his blog post, which explain the economic implications of this data. Singles attract other singles, and young adults are the most mobile population in the U.S.

But more importantly, THE SEX AND THE CITY MOVIE COMES OUT IN ONLY 57 MORE DAYS!!!! Which means you need to re-take at least three of those “Which Sex and the City character are you?” quizzes right away.

That’s a really good tie-in, ya know. Hundreds of thousands of single women on the east coast/Sex And The City. Nothing like four completely see-through stereotypes (The Goody-Goody, The Cougar, The Nutsy/Bitchy Redhead and the Shoe-Obsessed, Commitment-Phobe with a Daddy Complex) to ease the suffrin’ of all those singles out there.

That said, I have seen every single episode of this show. yes, all six seasons. On DVD.

Naw, the only men there are obnoxious hippies with no money, moneyed-but-ridiculous-yuppies and the totally dreaded hippies-with-money.
