A plug for The Plug

3 Mar

New favorite website! The Plug. Mary K introduced us, and now I am in love with clicking away my spring break on this little darling gem of webspace.

I was crossing N. Highland during the hour that Jay Carlson, founder and editor of The Plug, held up his “I Don’t Wear This Ugly Tie Anymore” sign at the Virginia-Highland intersection, and it made me nervous because I saw a guy on the other side of the street taking pictures of the stunt. I was afraid they were going to do something mean and photograph it, or that it was a trick to get me to take a free energy drink or Krystal and give away my email address, age range, and salary figure to marketers.

Later I meant to Google the sign but then I forgot the exact wording of the sign, and then I forgot altogether until this serendipitous referral.

Instead, it was just a bit of public art for Issue #28, dealing with issues that arise at the famous intersection of Virginia Avenue and North Highland Avenue.

Past issues include meaningful pieces on growing an experimental coke nail, an Oreo challenge, a check-yes-or-no letter to which Rep. John Lewis actually responded (although the unanswered letter to Shirley Franklin was the best), and unconventional items sent through the U.S. Postal Service.

You can get an anthology of pre-2008 issues, but you have to buy it with money.

See Carlson’s other internet presence, Gush Party. Also a treasure trove of clicks.

    yea! glad you like it!
awww, i thought you could access the old plug stories/challenges on the web, i guess that would not encourage sales of the book, huh?

there are some really good ones.
