Save the Soul Food Museum!

21 Feb

Today I found out there’s a soul food museum in Sweet Auburn, and it’s behind on its rent and in danger of closing, says the AJC.
Museum founder Kenneth Willhoite in the New York Times

The National African American Culinary Arts and Hospitality Association Soul Food Museum “isn’t a traditional museum as much as an Afro-themed curiosity shop that looks a bit like a convenience store,” and gotten some significant press coverage lately – in the New York Times/International Herald Tribune, 11 Alive, and most recently the AJC. Maybe it’s only a matter of time before the Food Network comes knocking.

Crank your speakers when you go to the museum’s website – you’ll be singing along for days! “Faaaaaamily reuuuuuunion!”

You can support the Soul Food Museum today at “The Taste of Soul Food,” hosted by The Spirit of Sweet Auburn in conjunction with Black History Month.

5:30-7:30 PM, $10 suggested donation (includes food tastings and a museum tour), 372 Auburn Avenue, NE

Wow! Not that it’s surprising, but I had no idea!

I just asked our two tour guides, Nannie and Jeri, if they knew about the Soul Food Museum. They looked each other knowingly, and turned back to me at me with this pitying look affectionately known as the “stupid cracker.”

    I’m so all over this.

This guy is not even a doctor or a professional chef!! He has been begging money for years and Im probably sure that he spends it all on Crack. The place isn’t even a museum… More like a ghetto corner store with nothing but stale (so called “historic”) food. The place smells like nothing but cigarettes also. Mr. Whilhote really need to get a day jobs!!
