Or so the mainstream media would have you believe!

Forbes ranked Atlanta in the top 20 most sedentary cities – although we are in the bottom of the top 20 at #17 (Memphis is the laziest)! The magazine reports that Atlantans spend an average of 35 hours a week watching television. THIRTY-FIVE HOURS?! Per person? Or household? They call San Francisco the least sedentary city, but a household there is probably much smaller than those in Atlanta because no matter what San Franciscans think, a dog is not the same thing as a human child.
And 61 percent of our residents are overweight or obese. Where do these numbers come from?
We also rank 19th out of 25 in a Travel + Leisure poll of attractive cities (Philly is ugliest). Hello, we have Jezebel‘s 50 Most Beautiful Atlantans list to prove that at least 50 people in Buckhead are semi-attractive! (If that whole Jezebel aesthetic is your style.)
And how is Minneapolis/St. Paul #8? That city is cold. Seasonal Affective Disorder and the ravages of a midwestern winter can really do some damage. Maybe it’s the Scandinavian blood up there that keeps them looking hot.
Most people I know who have moved out of the South to just about any city besides New York or L.A. complain that all their new neighbors are uglier than they. One friend visited her boyfriend who moved to Buffalo, NY and came back reporting, “Those people are jacked up.” Another friend who moved around a couple times up north was stunned that she was the most stylish person for miles, and she’s the one who only learned about makeup and the virtues of moisturization a few weeks before departing Georgia.
However, our best feature according to T+L are our big-name restaurants. Thank you Sean Combs and Emily Saliers!
